How Kindle Unlimited pays
Read-through value = KENP pages × the rate. That is the whole sum. Everything difficult about Kindle Unlimited is in the two inputs.
The rate is not fixed. Amazon sets a monthly fund, then divides it by every page read across the entire programme. Nobody knows the figure until the month is over. It has sat between four tenths and half a cent for a long time, and the box here defaults to a recent value so the maths has something to work with. Replace it with the current one.
KENP is not your page count. Amazon normalises the type so a book set in 18 point cannot earn more than the same book set properly. The estimate here divides the word count by 187, which is a reasonable rule for straight prose and wrong for anything else. Once the book is live, the real number is in your dashboard, and it is the only one Amazon pays on.
The comparison against a sale is the decision this is really for. Long books do well in the programme because a full read-through of 700 KENP pages beats a three dollar royalty. Short books rarely do. Set your per-sale royalty from the Kindle royalty calculator if you do not know it.

How much does Kindle Unlimited pay per page?
Around four tenths of a cent, and it changes every month. Amazon divides a fixed monthly fund between every page read across the whole programme, so the rate falls when more people are reading and rises when fewer are. Look up the current figure rather than trusting any calculator, including this one.
What is KENP?
Kindle Edition Normalised Pages, Amazon’s own page unit. It is not your printed page count and it is not your ebook page count. Amazon normalises font, line spacing and margins so that a padded book cannot earn more than a tight one, then counts what a reader actually reached.
How many KENP pages is my book?
Roughly the word count divided by 187, but the real number is in your KDP dashboard once the book is live and it is the only one that counts. Anything with front matter, images or heavy dialogue will land away from the estimate.
Is Kindle Unlimited worth it?
It depends on whether a full read-through pays more than a sale. For a full length novel at a low price it usually does, which is why long books do well in the programme. The catch is exclusivity: KDP Select means the ebook can be sold nowhere else for ninety days.
Do I get paid if someone does not finish?
You get paid for the pages they reached, once, on the furthest point of their first read. That is why the first chapter matters more in Kindle Unlimited than anywhere else.
