As a service provider we are responsible for our own content on these pages under the general laws. Under Art. 8 of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (the Digital Services Act), which § 7 (1) DDG applies in Germany, we are not obliged to monitor transmitted or stored third-party information, or to investigate circumstances indicating unlawful activity. Obligations to remove or block the use of information under the general laws remain unaffected; liability in that respect begins only from the point at which a concrete infringement becomes known, and we will remove such content promptly.

The sample book
The book shown in the product pictures on this website is The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, first published in 1892. It is in the public domain. The text comes from the Project Gutenberg edition. The word counts and overused-word figures in those pictures were worked out from that text with Galley's own counting code. The glossary entries, comments, timeline labels and the odd misspelling are ours, added to show the features, and are not Doyle's.
The demo you can open from this site uses a different book, The Lantern of Quiet Hours by Alida Fenn. That one is a work of fiction we wrote ourselves to demonstrate the software. Its text, characters, places and story bible are all invented, it is not based on any existing book, and any resemblance to a real work, author or place is coincidental.
Trademarks
All product names and trademarks referenced on this site, including on the comparison pages, are the property of their respective owners. Their use here is for identification and comparison only. No affiliation with, or endorsement by, those owners is implied.
Credits
The Galley logo is set in Migur, a typeface by Wassim Awadallah, an incredibly talented Lebanese type designer, and is used under its commercial licence. Site text is set in Schibsted Grotesk, Instrument Sans and EB Garamond, all used under the SIL Open Font License.
The interface icons are from Lucide, used under the ISC licence. The operating system logos are from Simple Icons, released under CC0 1.0, and the marks themselves belong to their owners.
Characters and places in the story bible are given a drawn mark by DiceBear, generated in your browser rather than fetched, so no data from your novel is sent anywhere. The character style is a remix of Abstract Avatars for All Creative Profile Use by Matt Houser, used under CC BY 4.0. The styles for places and for world-building are DiceBear's own Landscape and Stack, both released under CC0 1.0.
