Your account

This page covers your account settings: which devices you're signed in on, writing goals, how the app looks, and how to get help. You'll find all of them under your profile picture in the top corner.

Signing in on your devices

You can be signed in on up to three devices at once: your laptop, your desktop, wherever you write. If you sign in on a fourth, Galley signs out the one you haven't used for the longest, so you don't have to do it yourself. Open your profile picture → Account & devices to see the list.

Sign out everywhere except where you are right now.
💡 A "device" is really a browser. Chrome and Safari on the same computer count as two, and a private window counts as another one. If you reach the limit sooner than you expected, the list shows you what's signed in. This limit is part of your licence and only applies to your own devices. Sharing a book with a translator is a separate feature.

The dashboard

This is the first screen you see when you sign in. It shows the book you were last working on with a Resume button that opens the chapter you left off in, plus your other books and any ideas you've saved. The full tour is in Your first book.

Goals and momentum (only if you want them)

Under Book Settings you can set two targets per book: a total word count for the finished manuscript, and a daily number to aim for. Each book has its own, so you could have a big daily goal for your novel and none for a side project.

If you set them, the dashboard shows a ring for today, a two-week chart and a streak. If you don't want goals, just don't set them. Galley won't remind you about them.

Choosing your colour

The app is dark, but you can choose its accent colour from the palette icon in the top bar:

This is separate from the page you write on, which you can set to light or dark. See The editor.

Your author profile

Under Edit profile you can set your display name, a username, an author bio (which Galley uses in the submission package), and a profile picture. If you make a translation of a book that has no author set, Galley uses your display name as the author.

Getting help & asking for things

If you're stuck or have an idea, go to your profile picture → Help & feedback. Your message comes to me, the person who built Galley. The same window has a tab for suggesting features, and I read all of them when deciding what to build next.
